Dubrovnik, the jewel of Adriatic sea, with its old city on the list of world's cultural heritage is most famous  place to visit in Croatia.
The archaeological excavations proved that a settlement in the foundations of today's' City existed even before the 6th century. Dubrovnik achieved freedom from Venetian influence by the Zadar Treaty in 1358 while the other Dalmatian towns were still under the Venetian state rule. In the 16th century the legal status of the Dubrovnik Republic was completely established which meant the independent election of the rector and councilors, its own money coining and the flag with its patron St.Blasius, the independence  and the right to establish the consulates abroad.
